Here is our idea for a greener, more responsible London. We, as a sustainist, a remediationist, a eco-paganist, came up with an urban overhaul. We want to create a nature reserve in the middle of London’s biggest shopping area, Oxford Street. On the roof of the building an area would be re-purposed into a habitat for endangered plants and animals in order to promote awareness about species endangerment. More than 2 species of animals and plants a year are becoming extinct in the country of England due to pollution, intensive agriculture, and housing developments. A threat to biodiversity, nearly 500 have become extinct in England in the last two centuries alone (a much faster rate than before 1800). Scientists from Britain’s Botanic Gardens at Kew, London’s Natural History Museum and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), found that more than 22 percent of species were endangered, critically endangered or vulnerable.
