Social Action

Save Darfur.

I felt like this poster was a way to tell people about the conflict in Darfur.I wanted to keep the colors simple and earth toned, referencing the African environment. I wanted to also draw attention the Darfur, highlighting it in white, which also connected the area to the title of the poster. I selected white because I wanted a scene of purity and freedom. Darfur currently doesn’t have those things but if we elect peace they will gain freedom. I wanted the words surrounding Darfur to be both good and bad things that are present there. I wanted the words to be a subtle way of telling people that the war isn’t over. Peace has not yet come to Darfur.

Many people know about it, but have forgotten over time. The war is still going on. Innocent people are dying because of our lack of action. There is so much we can do to help yet we stay idol. There is still poverty, hunger, tyranny, and death. 4.2 million people have been affected by the conflicts. 250,000 people were forced out of their land to be refugees. 3,600 people die every day. 400,000 innocent men, women, and children have died since the beginning of the war in 2006 (UN Report 2006).

Now Darfur is in the process of electing a new leader. It’s so important that they get support they need in order to have a fair election. We can order election cards, host election events, write letters to congress, or donate monetary means.
